Attention rodeo fans, if you want to see one of your favorite PRCA bronc or bull rider it is very likely they will be in South Dakota the weekend of Sept. 28-29.

Sioux Falls will host its PRCA Xtreme Roughstock Event put on by the Sutton Rodeo family while Mitchell will host the PRCA Corn Palace Challenge put on by Tobin Livestock Systems.

Sheldon Tobin says the weekend of the two rodeos is the final weekend for professional cowboys to earn money towards the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December.

“We are pulling in some big names to the state,” Tobin says of the two rodeos. “It’s going to be a competitive, intense atmosphere with all these guys here.”

He also notes there are some cowboys that are “sitting on the bubble” in 13th-15th place in the world standings that need to make a little more money to secure their place in the top 15 to make an appearance in Vegas. Many of those cowboys are South Dakota bound at the end of the month to make it happen.

In Mitchell, an added $11,500 to the payout purse is what is enticing cowboys near and far to find their way to the Corn Palace. That and the atmosphere.

The rodeo will be held inside Mitchell’s famous Corn Palace. It makes for a very up-close experience for the rodeo fans and a neat opportunity for rodeo contestants to say they have ridden in the Corn Palace.

“Seating is about 2,000. It’s a small arena so there isn’t a bad seat in the house. People always comment on how good the rodeo is from the barrel man and sound system to the close- up action,” Tobin says.

In Sioux Falls the cowboys will be taking part in the first ever PRCA Xtreme Roughstock Event to be held at the Denny Sandford PREMIER Event Center.

“There is quite a buzz around this event because it hasn’t been done before with all three roughstock in an Xtreme event on one night like this,” says Kim Sutton.

The event showcases the PRCA’s top bull riders, saddle bronc and bareback riders against some best rodeo stock in the world, in a unique $40,000 competition.  “We are excited about it and have a good line up of contestants,” Sutton says.

So who are the rodeo cowboys making their way to Mitchell and Sioux Falls? As of Sept. 13 Mitchell has a few names you might recognize – JJ Elshere, Jesse Bail, Wade Sundell, Alex, Jake and Jesse Wright, Cort Scheer, Taos Muncy, Tyrel Smith, Chase Brooks, Isaac Diaz, Chuck Schmidt, Boudreaux Campbell, and Riker Carter – on their roster.

Sioux Falls has Steven Dent, Kaycee Field, Tilden Hooper, Jesse Kruse, Steven Peebles, JR Vezain, Tim O’Connell, Caleb Bennett, Cole Elshere, Bradley Harter, Wyatt Casper, Sage Kimsey, Parker Breding and JW Harris.

Due to re-entries, rough stock draws, injuries, etc. the contestants listed are not guaranteed to be at the rodeo they are listed for. Some of the rodeo contestants are entered in both Sioux Falls and Mitchell at this time.
